Gangs in American Cities, Part Three – Gangs are Domestic Terrorists

The Federal guideline for determining whether an activity is terrorism as defined in the Code of Federal Regulations as:

“…the unlawful use of force and violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives.” (28 C.F.R. Section 0.85)

Over the years of data gathering by both government institutions and private corporations we now see a greater threat emerging and it is without doubt that the biggest threat to national security and public safety has been and is terrorism in all of its forms. One form in particular which has gained little attention by mainstream media for being labeled as “terrorism” is the gang culture which has a rich presence in the United States and has branched out and flourished throughout the world.

Gangs indeed use unlawful force and violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce the civilian population in furtherance of political or social objectives.

Statistically, gang activity has caused more overall damage to society than any traditional terrorist group. When we add up the social and economic impact of gang related crimes such as drug distribution, money laundering, undermining of currency (example: through counterfeiting, and other financial crimes), the misuse of the welfare system and other fraud which all together force a heavy burden upon tax payers due to the rapidly growing prison population, but more importantly the innocent lives which such behavior claims by the application of force and violence, we begin to realize that gang activity world wide should be treated as equal of a threat like groups such as Al-Qaeda.

Are they trying to establish a new nation or institutionalize a religious doctrine?

No. But they are a structured, hierarchical group that strives to exist as an extra-governmental entity for the purpose of furthering their own agenda of controlling certain geographic areas and extracting revenue from the residents of those areas. They certainly have social objectives–commanding respect, staking out “territories,” posturing themselves economically and achieving a certain status that influences the young to join their groups and coerces others to overlook their illegal activity.

Isn’t this enough to qualify as terrorism?

Wasn’t the whole driving premise behind our national outrage against Muslim terrorists that we would not be intimidated by violence to alter our culture of democracy and freedom?

Are the residents of gang-ridden areas of Chicago enjoying democracy and freedom? They live in curious pockets of our nation where a fair share of public money does not get to them. Their schools are slighted, their police protection is slighted and as a result, the economic environment, normally made favorable by a stable government, does not exist where they live. This absence of state, federal or local government oversight is replaced by pseudo-governmental gangs run with every bit of cruelty as we imagine an Al-Qaeda based government would run.

Gang members even kill police. How much more anti-government, how much more armed, how much more lethal or threatening do you have to be to qualify as a “terrorist?” These gangs persist with their illegal, unregistered weapons, their blatant threats and intimidation, their unrelenting homicidal behavior, their arrogant indifference to our laws or civil rights and suffer only the occasional police inquiry to punctuate their reign of terror. Yet I doubt if you took a group of them to the airport and registered them for a flight to Europe, that they would even get through the security checkpoint.

Americans in urban pockets throughout this country are being victimized every day by domestic terrorists in the form of gangs, who kill their friends, family, storekeepers, toddlers, infants, honor students and police–all without ever being classified by our government as “terrorists.”

But that is assuredly what they are. How sad to live in a country that takes tax money from undefended people, who live in daily terror, in order to fight the allegedly ever-present, but never-defined specter of external “terrorism.” This federally-declared terrorism rarely manifests as the potent fear, violence and death that has become a weekly reality for Americans in the gang-governed territories of our country that the U.S. government has chosen to ignore. The national safety priority is apparently limited to the prevention of planes being taken over and crashed into things, but domestic terrorism in the form of daily assassinations of the young and innocent, within America is not even on Homeland Security’s radar screen.

Gangs in American Cities, Part Two – Some Large American Cities Degenerating Into Gang-Infested War Zones

Large cities all over the country degenerating into gang-infested war zones, and what we are seeing right now is just the tip of the iceberg. 67% of firearm murders took place in the country’s 50 largest metro areas. The 62 cities in those metro areas have a firearm murder rate of 9.7, more than twice the national average. Among teenagers the firearm murder rate is 14.6 or almost three times the national average.

Those are our nation’s crowded cities. Those are the places with the most restrictive gun control laws and the highest crime rates.  In 2006, the 54% of the population living in those 50 metro areas was responsible for 67% of armed killings nationwide. Those are disproportionate numbers especially when you consider that for the people living in most of those cities walking into a store and legally buying a gun is all but impossible.

The majority of murders in the cities with the worst homicide rates are gang-related. And while it isn’t always possible to be certain whether a killing was gang-related, the majority of homicide victims in city after city have been found to have criminal records.

In 2010, there were 11,078 firearm homicides in the United States and over 2,000 known gang-related killings, over 90% of which are carried out with firearms. Since 1981, Los Angeles alone has had 16,000 gang related homicides. That’s more than twice the number of Americans killed in Iraq and Afghanistan.

This is what big city America looks like today. It’s a place where life is cheap and illegal guns are as available as illegal drugs. It’s the war that we aren’t talking about, because it’s easier to talk about the inanimate objects being used to fight that war.

Let’s take a look at a few of the large cities:

Chicago

In recent years there have been massive cuts to the police budget in Chicago due to financial difficulties. At the same time, gang activity has dramatically increased in the city.

As a result, Chicago has become known for murders and violence. The murder rate in Chicago was about 17 percent higher in 2012 than it was in 2011, and Chicago is now considered to be “the deadliest global city“.

If you can believe it, the number of murders in Chicago during 2012 was roughly equivalent to the number of murders in the entire country of Japan during 2012.

And the primary reason for all of this violence in Chicago is the gangs. As I have written about previously, There are only about 200 police officers assigned to Chicago’s Gang Enforcement Unit. It is their job to handle the estimated 100,000 gang members living in the city.

Approximately 80 percent of all murders and shootings in the city of Chicago are gang-related, and as the gangs continue to grow in size the violence in the city is going to get even worse. If Barack Obama wants to do something about violence in America, perhaps he should start with his home city.

Detroit

Detroit is a perfect example of where the rest of America is headed if something dramatic is not done.

Detroit used to be one of the greatest manufacturing cities the world has ever seen, but over the past several decades the economic infrastructure of Detroit has been gutted and now there is very little industry left in the city.

Over half the children in the city live in poverty and a sense of hopelessness hangs in the air. At the same time, financial problems have forced the city to lay off huge numbers of cops. Back in 2005, there were about 4,000 police officers in Detroit. Today there are only about 2,500 and another 100 are scheduled to be eliminated from the force soon.

Meanwhile, crime in Detroit just continues to get even worse. There were 377 homicides in Detroit in 2011. In 2012, that number rose to411.

Things have gotten so bad that even even the Detroit police are telling people to “enter Detroit at your own risk“.

Camden

Camden, New Jersey is another city that has experienced huge cuts to the police budget. Their police force shrank by about a third between 2008 and 2011. Today, Camden is considered to be one of the most dangerous cities in America and it has a murder rate that is about ten times higher than New York City.

The gangs have a very strong hold over Camden, and kids kill kids on a regular basis in the city. The following is a brief excerpt from a recent article about the horrible violence that is plaguing Camden

At the vigil last week, residents prayed that Camden would simply find peace and that the masked gunman who killed Jewel Manire and Khalil Gibson would be caught.

As it grew darker, Michael Benjamin stood toward the back of the crowd, his son huddled even closer now, and shook his head.

“I’ve known at least 45 kids who’ve been killed in my lifetime,” he said, the boy holding his finger. “I stopped counting in 2004, though.”

East St. Louis

East St. Louis has a national reputation for being a city that you want to avoid. The following is from a Bloomberg article about the growing crime in that community…

Dodging open manholes where thieves had swiped cast-iron covers, Stephen Wigginton drives the crumbling streets of his hometown, East St. Louis, Illinois, pointing out new landmarks in America’s most violent city.

There’s the shopping mall where a police officer was shot in the face, a youth center that saw a triple homicide in September, and scattered about the city of 27,000 are brightly lit gas stations that serve as magnets for carjackers, hit-and-run robbers and killers.

“It’s the Wild West,” said Wigginton, the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Illinois.

Today, the murder rate in East St. Louis is 17 times higher than the national average, but financial problems have forced huge cuts to the police budget. The number of police patrolling the streets of East St. Louis was reduced by 33 percent between 2008 and 2011. Police in the city admit that they are outgunned and outmanned, but there is not much that can be done about it.

New Orleans

New Orleans was a crime-infested city even before Hurricane Katrina hit it in 2005, but life has never quite been the same since that time.

The gangs have a very strong presence in the city, and there simply are not enough financial resources to keep crime in check.

If New Orleans was considered to be a separate nation, it would have the 2nd highest murder rate on the entire planet. There are some areas of New Orleans that you simply do not ever want to venture into at night.

Meanwhile, the police force has been such a mess in recent years that the federal government finally decided to step in. It is hoped that the “reforms” will mean less crime in New Orleans in future years, but I wouldn’t count on it.

Oakland

Today, there are 626 police officers in Oakland, California. That is about a 25 percent decline from the 837 police officers that were patrolling the streets of Oakland back in December 2008.

Predictably, criminals have stepped in and have taken advantage of the situation. At one point in 2012, burglaries in the city of Oakland were up43 percent over the previous year.

If you can believe it, more than 11,000 homes, cars and businesses were burglarized in Oakland during 2012. That breaks down to approximately 33 burglaries a day.

Stockton

Police cuts in the city of Stockton, California have been so severe that the Stockton Police Officers’ Association ran a billboard advertisement with the following message at one point: “Welcome to the 2nd most dangerous city in California: Stop laying off cops!”

At the same time, crime in Stockton continues to get even worse. there have been more than 250 gold chain robberies in Stockton since the month of April, and there is no indication that crime in the city is going to slow down any time soon.

So what is the solution?

Should we have everyone turn in their guns?

No, that would just make the problem even worse. The gangs aren’t going to turn in their guns. The only people who would turn in their guns would be law-abiding citizens. That would just make them even more vulnerable to the violence and crime that are starting to spread like wildfire all over the nation.

American cities used to be the homes of industry and progress. Now they’re places where young Black and Hispanic men kill each other in growing numbers.

America does not need gun control. It is a mostly law-abiding place. And gun control cannot help the inner cities of America. Not when its murder rate is driven by gangs who have no trouble obtaining anything; whether it’s legal in the United States or not.

Gun control efforts in Chicago or any other major city are doomed because gangs represent organized crime networks which stretch down to Mexico, and trying to cut off their gun supply will be as effective as trying to cut off their drug supply.

Across the nation, hundreds of thousands of young men and women are caught up in gangs. In some areas, this lethal game is the only world they know.

This country does not need to have a conversation about how many bullets should go in a gun’s magazine. It does need to have a conversation about how many parents should go in a family. It needs to talk about the ghettos of our nation and have a serious conversation about broken families and generational dependency.

Historically, trying to tackle just one of the core issues of the gang problem has proven impossible. Trying to solve the education crisis, family breakdown, and increasing crime rates simultaneously has proven impossible—especially when one takes into account that the world is grappling with the worst economic downturn it has ever seen. There is simply not enough money to effect change.

We need to set aside the same old tired social justice rhetoric and have a serious conversation about what is wrong with New Orleans, Detroit and Chicago. And we need to do it before it’s too late.

Obama using computer-generated Twitterbots to create appearance of social media support for gun control

All of those Twitter messages that appear to represent millions of people who support President Obama’s gun control agenda… Yeah, many of those are bot-driven.

In other words, they’re fake!

That’s what a Republican congressman from Texas is alleging, anyway. He says the president’s entire gun control narrative is a fraud being perpetrated over one of the world’s busiest social media sites.

Steve StocktonRep. Steve Stockton accused Obama of trying to make support for his gun control positions more muscular than it really is by flooding Twitter with messages from bot-driven programs, The Hill newspaper reported.

The president’s “anti-gun campaign is a fraud,” Stockman charged. “Obama’s supporters are panicking and willing to do anything to create the appearance of popular support, even if it means trying to defraud Congress.”

“I call upon the president to denounce this phony spam campaign,” he added.

Stockman said that, in response to Obama’s call for Americans to tweet their congressman in support of new gun control measures he has proposed – such as banning higher-capacity magazines, military look-alike rifles and universal background checks – he only received 16 tweets, but they were all identical. He said a closer examination revealed that only six of them were from real people.

“The other 10 are fake, computer-generated spambots,” said Stockton’s office, in a press statement.

As evidence, he said the 10 tweets used default graphics and names and have not engaged in any interaction whatsoever with other people, the congressional newspaper reported. In fact, he said two of the tweets were sent at almost exactly the same time, and both follow just one person: Brad Schneck, the president’s former digital strategist.

The Texas lawmaker also said just one of the six tweets from an actual person is a constituent of his in his home state. Here is a rundown of the fraudulent tweets, per Stockman’s press release:

– They all use the default “egg” avatar.
– They have account names resembling names automatically suggested by Twitter.
– They have engaged in no human interaction.
– They have tweeted almost nothing promotional, sponsored messages pushing real estate websites and other liberal “grassroots” campaigns.
– They follow mostly MSNBC anchors or media outlets, not actual people.

Stockman also notes that reporter Robert Stacy McCain’s investigation of the fraudulent Obama campaign (available at: www.theothermccain.com) finds the majority of the Obama-supporting accounts were created in fewer than 48 hours before contacting members of Congress.

“If you are a real person who contacted us about your support for the president’s anti-gun campaign, we are listening,” said Stockman. “We do not agree with you, but we appreciate your sincere opinions and encourage you to continue to contact us.”

“But,” he continued, “the vast majority of the president’s supporters have no feelings because they have fake profiles from spammers.” He went on to say that Obama’s anti-gun activists “are trying to defraud Congress using the same scam that sells ‘male enhancement pills.’”

Some websites were understandably critical of the spamming.

From The Daily Caller:

Schenck describes himself as a “former digital strategist at #Obama2012 and @ObamaInaugural.” He also doesn’t seem to think anybody knows how Twitter works. Or maybe he just doesn’t know how Twitter works. Either way, it’s pretty clumsy work for a “digital strategist.”

These guys think you’re stupid, America. But then, they’ve got some pretty strong evidence to back them up. You reelected them.

Per Twitchy, a site that aggregates Twitter feeds:

“Kathleen H. Dittus” wasn’t born yesterday, you know. She – or her Twitter account, at least – was born today. No, she hasn’t even been born yet; she’s still inside that “egg” avatar, but she can’t wait to break out and lend the president a hand with his gun control effort.

The @BarackObama account, fresh off of exploiting Gabby Giffords to push its demand that Congress vote on an assault weapons ban, is doing its best to get #WeDemandAVote trending, but some conservatives are noticing that a lot of the supporters are a little, um, young. They have zero followers, follow no one, and have tweeted just once.

Clearly, the president seems more interested in campaigning than leading. Then again, the measures he’s proposing would have done nothing to stop any of the past gun massacres anyway.

This Is Not a Time to Take Away the Ability of Families to Defend Themselves

This is not a time to take away the ability of law-abiding American families to defend themselves. Instead, people need to put even more emphasis on self-defense as police forces all over the country are cut back.

David Clarke
David Clarke

Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke recently attracted national attention by releasing a 30-second radio spot in which he tells the public they are needed “in the game” of personal protection.  He says:

“With officers laid-off and furloughed, simply calling 911 and waiting is no longer your best option. You can beg for mercy from a violent criminal, hide under the bed, or you can fight back; but are you prepared? Consider taking a certified safety course in handling a firearm so you can defend yourself until we get there. You have a duty to protect yourself and your family. We’re partners now.”

Jim Penman
Jim Penman

Jim Penman, the city attorney of San Bernardino, California told citizens living there to “lock their doors and load their guns” because the police force in that city is being cut back again.

And that is good advice from both. As the economy continues to decline and as millions more Americans fall into poverty, the violence is going to get even worse.

What would you do if a desperate criminal broke into your house and started searching through your home room by room? That is the horrifying situation that one young mother down in Georgia was recently faced with

She quickly retreated to an attic crawlspace with the children, but not before she also picked up her handgun.

The burglar, whom police identified as Paul Ali Slater, did a room-by-room search of the home, and when he reached the attic, she was ready.

Walton County Sheriff Joe Chapman told WSBTV: ‘The perpetrator opens that door. Of course, at that time he’s staring at her, her two children and a .38 revolver.’

She reportedly fired all six rounds, missing only once. The other shots hit Slater about the face and neck.

Sheriff Chapman told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution: ‘The guy’s face down, crying. The woman told him to stay down or she’d shoot again.’

What would have happened if she had not had any way to defend herself and her children?

That is something that we all need to think about.

Gun Control Legislation Ready To Go

Senator Dianne Feinstein
Senator Dianne Feinstein

The New Year has just arrived and Senator Diane Feinstein already has parts of new gun control legislation ready to go. Two Sunday’s ago on NBC’s Meet the Press, Feinstein talked about giving President Obama a bill he can “lead on” and used the term assault weapon loosely.

Feinstein has posted a summary of what the legislation will cover, which inculdes a ban on semi-automatic handguns and shotguns in addition to rifles. The legislation also requires registration of previously purchased guns.

Senator Feinstein’s ultimate plan has always been to have Mr. and Mrs. America turn in their guns to the government, period. Feinstein has admitted that the bill is about gun confiscation.

She tells us a gun ban is about saving the children and reducing crime, but her comments on 60 Minutes in 1995 reveal her true plan is to disarm the American people.

Feinstein’s  legislation is open-ended and includes provisions to re-register firearms and submit the fingerprints of law-abiding Americans as if they’re sex offenders.  The bill will also include a buy-back provision that will allow the government to confiscate all firearms.

Both Feinstein and New York governor Andrew Cuomo have said that is their plan.

It is a gun confiscation bill.

Chicago, which has been an example to follow for the anti-gun lobby for decades, probably has the toughest gun laws in the country. In fact, so extreme is the gun control in the Windy City that prior to the 2010 Supreme Court decision in McDonald v. Chicago, you couldn’t even have a gun in your own house with which to defend yourself or your family.

A Chicago home owner was like a public school teacher — he had to sit defenseless with his fingers crossed and simply hope the criminals didn’t target his house on a given day or night.

Even now, after the McDonald decision, you have jump through a myriad of hoops to get a gun.  And, although they are working on it, concealed carry has yet to be legalized.

Yet the truth is more than 440 school-age children have been shot in Chicago in 2012. This is not to say that 440 school-age children died, simply that more than 440 school-age children were at least wounded. The number of school-age children killed is reported at approximately 60.

Despite all the shootings, murders, and bloodshed, you never hear a peep about this from progressive politicians or the leftist run mainstream media. So why isn’t this news worthy? Is it because it would embarrass those anti second amendment fanatics who brag about Chicago’s tough gun laws? Is it because most of the kids who were shot and killed were minorities? Or is it because the corrupt media doesn’t want to show Chicago in a bad light?

The bottom line: No matter how tough the gun laws are, the crazed, nut jobs will find a way to get them and, if they so chose, use them. No draconian law can stop this, no matter how well intentioned the law is.  It seems that denying the free exercise of the right to keep and bear arms to law-abiding citizens not only does not curtail the actions of criminals, but actually emboldens them.
