The U.S. Embassy on Monday confirmed the death of 41-year-old Christopher “Norm” Bates, who was the information management officer at the Johannesburg U.S. Consulate. He was an 11-year State Department employee.
A guard at a residential complex in upmarket Johannesburg suburb Illovo heard a woman screaming around 3:00 am, said police spokesman Lungelo Dlamini.
“When he went to investigate he saw the woman had a knife in her hand and the man was lying on the floor with stab wounds,” said Dlamini, “He was stabbed in the upper body.”
An official in South Africa says the woman suspected of killing an American Embassy employee will appear in court Tuesday.
