During a speech at a National Press Club luncheon, House Judiciary Chairman John Conyers (D-Mich) questioned the point of lawmakers reading the health care bill.
Conyers said, “I love these members, they get up and say, ‘Read the bill.’ What good is reading the bill if it’s a thousand pages and you don’t have two days and two lawyers to find out what it means after you read the bill?”
If it is too much trouble to even read the bill, Congressman, then you should vote against it! If you can’t understand it, then how can you possibly explain it to your constituents? How can your staff answer phone calls, letters or email about it? Do you honestly believe that the people in your district should have to put up with legislation that will effect their health and well being for the rest of their lives that you don’t even understand? That, sir, is pathetic.
Based on the attitude of Congressman Conyers, I would say he should be voted out of office in 2010. He is not a patriot. He is nothing but a “Yes-Man” of the Speaker of the House. I hope the good people in Michigan agree and opt for someone new to represent them next year.
