“This regional cooling effect may temporarily neutralize the long- term warming phenomenon caused by heat-trapping greenhouse gases building up around the earth,” said Richard Wood who is a research scientist at the Met Office Hadley Centre in the UK. “Those natural climate variations could be stronger than the global-warming trend over the next 10-year period,” Wood said in an interview.
During the 1970’s, scientists were warning of Global Cooling and predicting disastrous results of that. Is this current report showing the natural cycle of temperatures on the planet?|
Regardless of where you stand on man-made global warming, I submit this 10 month period provides a perfect timetable to both get ready for the next warming cycle by reducing emissions AND will get the country to the point where it is not reliant on foreign sources of energy. A win for the environment and a win for national security!
In ten years, if we act now, the United States could build and have enough nuclear power facilities to provide power for much of the country. At the same time, we could continue to develop other energy sources such as solar, wind, tidal and synthetic fuels. Each of these could possibly be to the point where they could be operational and cost efficient in the next 10 years. We need to expand the places in the U.S. where we can produce our own oil supplies and we need to build new refineries and modernize the existing ones. These can be complete and operational in the next ten years as well. The automobile industry should realize the need and the desire to produce vehicles that are more efficient and environmentally friendly. It would serve both that industry and the nation better if we were to offer incentives to those manufacturers to make those vehicles happen and not force unrealistic demands that will drive up costs and drive down safety.
All of these projects would contribute in another area as well. Jobs! Each of the suggestions stated above would create thousands of jobs. Just another win!
This should be our national goal, to create a safe, clean, independent of any foreign country energy program with a target date of not longer than ten years. Some might be sooner, of course, and that is great. New sources may be discovered and developed as well. There is nothing that this country cannot do if it is motivated and working together. This is not a Democratic or Republican endeavour. This is an American project.
If Congress is serious about the environment…if Congress is serious about making the U.S. independent of foreign oil…if Congress is serious about employment of thousands of Americans, it should get this rolling by providing what is needed to begin and to clear away obstacles that would hinder the program. Mother Nature seems to be giving us a ten year window of opportunity. Let us not let this pass us by!
